What are your plans for spacecraft stores ?
I’ve really enjoyed developing stores over the last few years. We have a long term commitment to a store in Gertrude Street Fitzroy. It’s an extension of the studio and that relationship will get even closer. Constatly changing, new products every Friday.
Donna is spending more time in store with Geralyn and Courtney so that’s now a very strong team. They have plans for a more dynamic retail experience, intrinsically linked to the studio – practical information, events at the studio, opportunities to work at the studio for a day, artists talks, previews…
What are your plans for the next spacecraft retail project?
The next project is an on-line store which will be ready very soon and maybe another temporary store in Sydney towards the end of the year. I started with a temporary store at the GPO in Melbourne, which we planned to run for 12 weeks, actually ended up running that store for almost four years, so I guess the projects are often quite flexible.
I had an exhibition in Tokyo at the Tomorrowland’s space in Shibuya. The variety of retail ideas in Tokyo has added impetus to my own retail aims. So I think it’s time for a new kind of experience in the Gertrude Street store, more information and practical experiences.
